Highlight of the week
With SNAP/EBT benefits being cut off, I want to highlight a few orgs providing free hot meals across LA.
I could easily spiral into a rant about how wild it is that we’re even here… but instead, I want to focus on the people doing something about it.
A reminder that a lot of people on EBT work full time and still deserve access to good, high-quality meals.
This week’s spotlight is Shift Our Ways in the Valley. They’re a local farm offering free produce harvests, gardening workshops, and volunteer opportunities.
Second, is this list of hot meals being served across Long Beach!
Also, I read this Substack (linked here) that really stuck with me, the writer talked about how many founders and creatives have relied on EBT at some point. And it’s true, food insecurity doesn’t always look the way people assume, and it’s usually the same people building culture who are figuring out how to feed themselves.
Anyway, if you’re free this week, go check out Shift Our Ways. Maybe volunteer. Maybe just show up and learn how to grow your own food. Either way, it’s community care in action. 💚
Thursday November 6 ⭐️
On Thursday, DTLA ArtNight is back from 6-10 with an evening filled with art, music, culture, and community.
La Vida Salsa, a social club curating salsa events and socials, is hosting a beginners salsa class in Sun Valley for just $10 and yes, complimentary wine is included. 🍷
Noche Romántica is bringing Noche Sonidera to La Cita, a special tribute to Ángel Pedraza, the legendary singer and accordionist of Grupo Kual, whose sound shaped generations of Cumbia Sonidera from Mexico to L.A. and beyond.
Portuguese concert tonight- I actually partnered with them to get you 20% off tickets here!🇵🇹 Basically we got Portugal at home.
Friday November 7 ⭐️
I Love Micheladas is teaming up with Pantone 294, the largest traveling MLB fan base, to host First Fridays in South Central. Expect DJs, tamborazo, and banda all night long.
Max Vino please is hosting a wine night in Marina Del Rey, featuring wines from Andrea Jaramillo’s collection (Chismosa, Como La Flor & Sol y Mar) celebrating Latinidad and the vibrant intersection of culture and community that inspires her work.

Saturday November 8 ⭐️
On Saturday, Pa’ La Cultura is hosting a Cafecito & Reggaeton at Café Fresco, featuring specialty drinks and fresh Ecuadorian juices. 🇪🇨 Three DJs will be spinning reggaeton and other Latin sounds from 3–6 PM- and admission is free!
In light of SNAP benefits being cut off, POT Gardens free book library is becoming a free community pantry. Where you can donate unopened non-perishable foods & baby formula. All donors will receive a POT coupon in gratitude
The free pantry is located on the corner of 12th St. outside POT Gardens in JeffersonPark.
Aetna Street Solidarity is hosting the Really Really Free Market from 2-6 pm in Van Nuys, a community-powered swap where everything’s free, food, clothing, and essentials. It’s all about mutual aid and sharing resources across the Valley. Bring what you can, take what you need.
Metro Art, The Public Square, and Grand Perfromances are hosting “LAte Night Train of Thought,” a free evening celebrating the vibrant arts scene that connects Angelenos across music, comedy, poetry, and conversation. This will be happening from 7PM to 10PM at Union Station.
Hardly home is hosting an event at Los Globos in Silverlake that is all about connecting flights through music. With genres like house, dance, R&B, and Latin‑influenced beats.

Sunday November 9 ⭐️
Suavecito is hosting a 3 mile morning beach run in Venice at 8:30 a.m They will have a post-run perreo, jewelry pop up, and even coffee and bagels.
This Sunday, The Do-Over, one of LA’s most iconic day parties that started in a Hollywood backyard and grew into a global movement, celebrates 20 years of music, community, and pure LA energy. Expect house, hip-hop, funk & classics from crews like Rhonda, Donavan’s Yard, Link Up! & Pangea Sound. Basically, the LA day party you don’t want to miss.
